Femslashex 2018: Dear Creator Letter
Aug. 17th, 2018 12:25 amI'm Cassie/Hal, and thank you for reading. This my first fandom exchange, so bear with me. Don't worry if my likes or prompts sound super specific, I'm excited for your gift as long as it doesn't fall into the DNWs listed below.
I can be reached anonymously via my tumblr if you have questions.
Underage sex, porn without plot, emetophilia, rape, torture, incest, brainwashing, pregnancy, Space AUs, Harry Potter AUs, Coffee Shop AUs, non-human biology kinks, body fluid kinks, BDSM, hard sci-fi, first-person fanfiction, the "arranged marriage to lovers" trope, makeup or hair styling as plot
Favorite Genres: Future fic, character studies, canon divergence at a crucial juncture, roleswap AUs, modern day fantasy AUs, fragmented short stories, playful or experimental comics, epistolary form
Literary Devices I Like: Clumsy gestures of intimacy, socially dysfunctional characters making their relationships work, unpacking the "normal girl" trope, subverting fate, encounters with alternate selves, rivalry/dueling, juxtaposed relationships, childhood friends, young women running off together, shapeshifting, magical realism, metafiction, comedy in face of the absurd, doodles in the margins,
Art Ideas I Like: Post high school/university life, intimate moments in natural landscapes, internal conflicts externalized through symbolism, formal wear, floral patterns, silhouettes/exaggerated poses, expressive hands, watercolors, domestic rituals, semi-ironic hand kissing, couples lounging around together, scenes at the height of or just after a competition, road trips
Bang Dream
I'm caught up with the English language events and the Pasupare, HHW, and Afterglow side stories. I love the network of relationships among the bands, so feel free to include multiple pairs/background characters. Given the game's atmosphere, I'd prefer upbeat or bittersweet work to a tragedy.
Hina/Maya
I adore Hina's sincere respect for Maya's talent and enthusiasm, that Hina is unabashedly kind to her despite being the (unintentionally) rudest girl in Pasupare. I don't know the context for this card but it's great. Both future fic and fledgling relationship fic would work here.
Hina/Chisato
The two biggest assholes in what should be a cutesy idol band...together. I love how, as oblivious as she seems at times, Hina is one of the first Pasupare members to see through Chisato. And how Chisato's growing from being (okay, rightfully) snide to appreciative of Hina. I'd be especially interested in future fic/art that acknowledges their respective careers may not ultimately be in the idol industry, and how they hash that out together.
Kaoru/Hina
Bonus rarepair. I can't read Japanese and hence the context for the card where Kaoru looks like she's dunking Hina into a well but I appreciate its baffling power. It would not take much to sell me on them as a couple, mostly for the chagrin a potential relationship would put Chisato, Misaki, and Sayo through.
Kaoru/Chisato
I love Chisato's barely concealed venom around Kaoru and Kaoru's attempts to take it in stride. I would be interested in seeing them reconcile and mutually growing into a better relationship, but art/fic in the mode of their passive aggressive movie and mall dates on the home screen would also be delightful. Comedy/rivalry power couple.
Chisato/Maya
If Kaoru seems to bring out the worst in Chisato sometimes, Aya and Maya bring out her best. I like Maya and Chisato's differences in background and self-presentation, heavily constructed and self-controlled vs. bubbling enthusiasm. I'd prefer something positive or lighthearted for creations involving Maya, as she doesn't get seem to get much attention, positive or otherwise, from fandom.
Tomoe/Tsugumi
Tsugu sees herself as a "normal" girl among a group of talented musicians, but she and Tomoe quietly hold Afterglow together. There's potential for fluff or fic that affirms Tsugu's place within Afterglow and beside a lifelong musician like Tomoe. Afterglow ensemble?
Misaki/Kaoru
Hello Happy World's a mess, and I love the way Misaki learns to enjoy getting caught up in it all, even as she tries to play the straight man. She's just about impervious to Kaoru's BS, but that's might make them work.
Art Ideas
Starry-eyed Hina vs. the rest of the world, cargo shorts are cute actually and it's great how Maya + Hina + Misaki canonically wear them, masquerade balls, the last Afterglow tea party before graduation, partner dance practice, curling up together on this bus with all the instruments loaded up, Chisato accidentally breaking out of passive aggressive mode towards something honest
Additional DNWs
Hina written as revolving around Sayo, PoPiPa, > PG rating, makeup/hair/nails focus
Delicious in Dungeon
I should be caught up to the most recent translated chapter soon. Spoilers are fine.
Marcille/Falin
I love that their dynamic is slowly revealed over a prolonged separation. The DinD universe is tonally quirky and rich, so I’d prefer a canon compliant setting here. Fluff or speculative backstory or an exploration of magic styles or body horror romance, I’d be excited to see any of them.
Art Ideas
Personal rituals, the itemization of Falin and Marcille's life together styled like the recipes and minutiae documented in the manga, magic spells, use of Marcille's amazing facial expressions, a quiet interlude by the campfire
DNWs: Rating > R, unadulterated misery, makeup/presentation plots
Night in the Woods
Mae/Bea
I've played NITW twice and couldn't help but choose Bea's route every time. Mae and Bea (well, Mae especially) are deeply troubled and imperfect people, but they genuinely try to empathize and help each other survive.
I'd love to see post-game art that expands on the road trip proposed in the Weird Autumn ending. Then there's the differences in temperament and design between Mae and Bea, with Mae jumping across telephone wires and houses while Bea ambles along. Does Bea ever shout back when Mae shouts into the air while walking the wires by Bea's apartment?
I'm fond of the bittersweet whimsy in Mae and Bea's early events but playing into the cosmic horror of the setting is completely welcome. Doodles and Mae-style marginalia would also fit right in.
Additional DNWs
human redesigns, furry redesigns, rating > PG-13 given the cartoony nature of the designs, pastels
Persona 3
I greatly prefer Persona 3 Portable (barring the Ken social link jfc) to FES, though I've played both. Minako's guts and willingness to jump into wild relationship decisions won me over. I didn't play through The Answer, so I'd prefer if art didn't reference content from there.
Minako/Mitsuru
Minako wants to ride with the coolest girl in fantasy high school on a motorcycle and I greatly respect that. I'd also be interested in art of them fighting through the Tartarus together.
Minako/Fuuka
Fuuka seems to blossom into her interest in technology in the epilogue, so I'd be interesting in art that plays to this angle rather than the "failing at femininity (cooking)" that seemed to spoil the potential of her social link.
Additional DNWs
Those skeevy bathing suit outfits, gore, rating > PG-13, dead Minako
Revue Starlight
It’s safe to assume I’m caught up with the series as it airs. I love how Revue Starlight's tense slice-of-life scenes are juxtaposed with metaphorical dueling ones, so I'd like if the Utena-esque tone is retained in spirit. Though it’s only half finished as of prompting time, there's already a lot to take in. Feel free to incorporate spoilers as they develop or to speculate as necessary.
This is a series about cycles and systems and how girls are discarded or altered to fit within them. I love Banana's ever deepening mess. I love Banana/Junna, who seem to have a good relationship despite the uh. I'd be interested in fic that scrutinizes the way Mahiru projects onto Karen, that treats Mahiru's crush with more respect because honestly the sweat-sniffing jokes weren't funny even in a deliberately absurd comedy sense. Maya and Claudine and their time loops. Future fic confronting the reality Banana's desperate to avoid, re. women rather than girls, girls giving careers in theatre.
Art Ideas
Dueling outfits, performance scenes, romantic dueling, the stage as an arena for personal conflicts, dates after the eventual Starlight performance, Banana/Maya has me screaming now
Additional DNWs
Rating > PG-13, Karen as the focus (she's just not as interesting as everyone else)
Welcome to the Ballroom
While most f/f could function without acknowledging peripheral male characters, I think Welcome the Ballroom fanwork in particular needs to interrogate the existing dance partnerships. Like the paradoxically powerful and vulnerable Shizuku/Hyodou partnership.
Mako/Shizuku
Shizuku as a character has so much untapped potential. I want Shizuku and Mako have the opportunity to express themselves without being reprimanded for overshadowing their male partners. I'd be interested in fic that explores whether or not Shizuku chooses to go abroad, whether Mako finds a way to follow. The inevitable uncoupling of Mako and Gaju. I would love future fic, mythological AUs, or alternative partner AUs.
Chinatsu/Akira
I already listed "childhood friends" and "rivalry" up at the top, so I'm not sure if I have much more to say on the appeal of these two to me. Does Akira eventually develop a crush on a girl more likely to reciprocate? Does their mutual vitriol turn to catharsis? I'd also be interested in fic exploring their relationship dynamics shortly after the tournament that (unfortunately) didn't finish before the author went on hiatus.
Art Ideas
BALLROOM DRESSES, Chinatsu and Akira staring each other down, Shizuku and Mako on the outbound train together, a barefoot dance in the studio parking lot, partner swapping
Additional DNWs
Rating > PG-13
Phew, thank you so much for making it this far!
